Eid al-Ghadīr Mubārak - The Greatest ʿĪd of Wilāyah
Eid al-Ghadīr Mubārak to you and your families!
﷽
(I begin) In the Name of Allah, the All-Kind (or All-Beneficent), the All-Merciful (or All-Compassionate)
Dear readers,
Eid al-Ghadīr Mubārak to you and your families!
As lovers of the Qurʾān and the Ahl al-Bayt (ʿa), we find ourselves today at the summit of celebration - the day when the Prophet of Mercy ﷺ, by Divine command, declared at Ghadīr Khumm:
“Of whomsoever I am the Mawlā (master), ʿAlī is also his Mawlā.”
🔸 This is the greatest Eid, described by our Imāms (ʿa) as ʿĪd Allāh al-Akbar - Allah’s Greatest Eid.
🔸 This Eid spans three days of celebration.
Instead of our regular reflection from Nahj al-Balāgha, today we turn directly to the source - the declaration at Ghadīr.
This is the day that made Nahj al-Balāgha possible. Before the eloquence of Imām ʿAlī (ʿa) could reach the pulpits and pages, he had to be publicly declared as Mawlā, the divinely appointed successor.
We invite you to revisit and reflect on the original declaration of Ghadīr through these powerful resources:

🌟 Five Unique Aspects of Eid al-Ghadīr
As you celebrate, reflect on the uniqueness of this day in the Islamic tradition, unlike any other Eid:
Here are the five unique aspects of Eid al-Ghadīr:
A Beginning of Examination: Unlike Eid al-Fiṭr, which is a reward for fasting, or Eid al-Aḍḥā, a reward for Ḥajj, Eid al-Ghadīr marks the start of a test for humanity. It signifies the beginning of how people will deal with the implications of this day after pledging allegiance to ʿAlī (ʿa).
Rejection by Hypocrites: Eid al-Ghadīr is the only Eid that causes discomfort and agitation among hypocrites, who are described as reacting to it like "a fish in the desert". It is considered the "other face of Sūrat al-Raḥmān," a chapter of the Quran that, according to the Prophet, does not settle in the heart of a hypocrite.
Dismantling of Other Symbols: This Eid is unique because it declares "no to those who insulted ʿAlī," and "no to those who removed ʿAlī from the caliphate". It implies that once ʿAlī is recognized as Mawlā (master/guardian), other perceived authorities lose their standing.
Daily Renewal: Eid al-Ghadīr is distinct as it renews daily through the recitation of Duʿāʾ al-ʿAhd (Supplication of the Covenant), continuing beyond its initial date of the 18th of Dhū al-Ḥijjah.
Exclusive to Ahl al-Bayt (ʿa): It is the only Eid that was legislated by God, conveyed by the Noble Prophet Muḥammad (ṣ), and sealed with his Household (Ahl al-Bayt), belonging exclusively to them. The infallible Imāms (ʿa) encouraged its celebration, even calling it "Allah's Greatest Eid". The Imāms (ʿa) insisted we celebrate it, not passively, but as a manifestation of love, loyalty, and identity.
Let us not allow this Ghadīr to pass as just another date. Let it become a living allegiance, a daily covenant, and a spiritual awakening to who we are, and whom we follow.
